The Cadillac Three are taking a break. Singer Jaren Johnston is receiving treatment for mental health issues that have plagued him for several years.
The country-rock trio’s shows through the end of the year have all been canceled, but the group say they’ll return to the stage at the appropriate time.
News that something was wrong was teased on Tuesday (Sept. 17) when the group canceled all of this week’s shows due to an unspecified illness. On Friday morning (Sept 20), “The South” hitmakers shared a full statement:
“Friends, we want to be honest with you. Jaren has entered treatment for his mental health & well-being. The last few years have been challenging on a number of levels. The right thing to do right now is to make space to focus on family, health and longevity.”
While the statement doesn’t give specific examples, the death of Johnston’s father in 2022 is public knowledge. He died after battling COVID-19, and earlier this month, the singer remembered him on Instagram.
“We love our fans and the community we’ve built together,” the band’s message says. “Canceling concerts is not something we take lightly. We have no doubt we will ride down the road again.”
Refunds for the group’s headlining shows are available at the point of purchase. Ticketmaster shows six dates remaining for 2024.
The news comes during an otherwise productive month for Johnston. He co-wrote “B–ch on the Sauce” for Miranda Lambert’s new album, released on Sept. 13. He also co-wrote “Live Here to Work,” the new song Kip Moore released on Friday.
With Dolly Parton’s recent induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the country and rock genres are closer than ever before — but she’s far from the first country artist to venture into rock territory, or vice versa. Here are 35 songs that show just how great the musical crossover between country and rock can be.
