MGK jumped out of his seat when his name was announced as winner of the Crossover Song of 2024 at the People’s Choice Country Awards.
He was celebrating “Lonely Road,” a “Country Roads” (John Denver) interpolation that he made with Jelly Roll. Those two have a history.

“Comparison is the thief of joy,” MGK said. “There is enough room on this couch for everybody.”
He was referring to a since-settled feud he had with Jelly Roll. Both have recognized it and even talked openly about the root of it.
“You were just skinny and handsome,” Jelly Roll said earlier this month. “I was just a hater. You know what I’m saying? I was just a hater, dude!”
“Malibu’s Most Wanted” was an MGK diss track from early in the rapper’s career. “It is so funny how much I love you now, because God, I hated you so much back then,” MGK says during the same podcast ep.
Flash-forward to Thursday night; “We found camaraderie in the chaos,” Machine Gun Kelly says.
One has to wonder if MGK has more planned for country music. He admitted he was at last year’s NBC telecast as well, and his win in two categories signals a door is open for him.
“I don’t view music as genres,” he said from the stage. “To me there’s two genres of music: Good music and bad music.”
Songs from Zach Bryan, Kelsea Ballerini, Post Malone and more helped fill out the Crossover Song of 2024 category. He’s also up for Music Video of 2024.
