Jason Aldean is one of the biggest country stars on the planet. He is no slouch when it comes to performing, either, having played more than 1,500 concerts in his career.
What does it take to get a performer like Aldean on stage and in his best headspace before a show?
In speaking with the “Let Your Boys Be Country” singer for Taste of Country Nights on Demand, I asked him what was on his backstage rider.
Aldean said, “I don’t think I have updated that since my first tour, ’05. It was pretty simple. I think back then it was Crown Royal and cigarettes, or something.”
The “Dirt Road Anthem” singer continued, “I don’t smoke anymore, so there’s that. Now it’s just Crown.”
Aldean revealed in 2014 that he was quitting smoking cigarettes in favor of an E-Cig.
After a second of thinking, Aldean came back to adjust his statement.
“Actually, we changed it … it’s Wolf Moon now, it’s not even Crown.”
Interestingly enough, his statement about not having Crown Royal backstage anymore has some substance behind it, since Aldean is partnered with Wolf Moon Whiskey. The partnership began in 2020.
So when you see someone of the stature of Aldean on stage, performing in front of thousands of people, all it took to keep him happy backstage was bourbon.
In a world where they can have literally anything they want backstage, and the venue is contractually obliged to provide it, country artists continue to prove over and over again that they are just normal down-to-earth folks, looking to have a good time.
Evan Paul is the host of Taste of Country Nights, a syndicated radio show heard on more than 130 country radio stations nationwide, every night from 7PM to midnight. He plays the best new country music and interviews today’s top stars, like Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Dan + Shay, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Lady A, + more!
Jason Aldean exploded onto the country music scene in 2005 with his first hit “Hicktown,” which shot to No. 10 on the country charts. Since then, the megastar has released 11 studio albums and has had 27 songs reach No. 1. Let’s take a look back at a young Jason Aldean, when he was just getting started.

For that reason, we’ve not included any country legends who’ve passed. That eliminates Toby Keith.
As of 2023, there are more than 70 members of the Grand Ole Opry. Historically, nearly 250 men, women and groups were members — so, it’s a select group that excludes several Country Music Hall of Famers.
