For William Bryan and his wife, Beverly, their vacation from Alabama to Florida certainly did not go as planned, and now Beverly is left without her soulmate, all due to an alleged error by a Florida surgeon.
Bryan had only been in Florida for a short time when he started to complain to his wife of lower left abdominal pain, according to Beverly Bryan’s attorneys.
They went to the hospital where they were told he had some abnormalities on his spleen that the doctors were concerned with.
According to the law firm that is representing Bryan, Zarzaur Law P.A., “General Surgeon Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christopher Bacani persuaded the 70-year-old Bryan to undergo emergency surgery at the hospital or he ‘could experience serious complications if he left the hospital.'”
Bryan underwent a hand-assisted laparoscopic splenectomy procedure on Aug. 21. In layman’s terms, that is basically a procedure to take out your spleen.
Now here is where it gets weird. Apparently the surgeon removed Bryan’s liver instead of his spleen.
Reasons at this time are unknown for the mishap.
As soon as the liver was removed, Bryan instantly bled out on the operating room table.
The surgeon, Shaknovsky, allegedly told Beverly Bryan that her husband’s “‘spleen was so diseased that it was four times bigger than usual and had migrated to the other side of (his) body,” Zarzaur Law P.A. alleges.
Beverly Bryan has since come out and made a statement through her legal team. She says she wants everyone to know her husband’s story so they are aware and it never happiness to anyone else.
Her official statement, through her legal team reads, “My husband died while helpless on the operating room table by Dr. Shaknovsky. I don’t want anyone else to die due to his incompetence at a hospital that should have known or knew he had previously made drastic, life-altering surgical mistakes.”
Yes, you read that right, apparently this isn’t the first time something like this has happened with the same exact doctor.
According to the lawyers, he was previously accused of removing a portion of a patient’s pancreas instead of performing an adrenal gland resection.
That case never made it to trial though it was settled out of court and the surgeon continued to practice.
Beverly Bryan is going through pain that most of us haven’t endured and now she wants not only to be compensated, but to get justice. She apparently is considering filing criminal charges as well.
